Why Be an Election Worker?

The strength of democracy hinges on the cooperation between government bodies, local election offices, and citizens working together seamlessly to ensure a successful and precise electoral process. By dedicating your time during elections, you play a crucial role in upholding democracy, becoming an active member of the community, acquiring firsthand knowledge of the electoral process, and earn some extra income at the same time.

Election Worker Qualifications

To serve as a Plumas County election worker you must be:

  • A United States Citizen
  • A registered voter in Plumas County
  • At least 18 years of age

(Per California Elections Code Section 12302)

Elections Worker Duties

Plumas County is all Vote-By-Mail. Because of this, we no longer have polls workers, we have election workers. Election workers perform a variety of duties integral to the democratic process. Some of those duties include:

  • Performing Logic & Accuracy testing
  • Tallying votes
  • Canvassing the vote

To express interest in assisting in a Plumas County election, please fill out and return the Election Worker Interest Form.

Forms may be returned by mail, in-person, or by email.

What Happens Next?

Once an Election Worker Interest Form has been received, the elections office will review it. If selected, an email containing next steps, scheduling for election worker training, scheduling for assigned election duties, and any other relevant information will be sent to the email provided. 

Any person wishing to work an election is considered an employee of Plumas County and must fill out a job application, for "Extra Help - Elections", to be turned into Plumas County Human Resources. Plumas County Human Resources will also schedule and conduct a separate new hire orientation with the election worker. Election workers are compensated for their time.
