Election Facts Vs. Myths

Fact

Per California Elections Code, ballots are mailed 29 days prior to an election. They are printed and mailed by our State Certified printer in Central California, this is why it can take up to 2 weeks for a voter's ballot to arrive.

Myth

Ballots are mailed to voters months before an election and local election offices decide when to mail their ballots.

Fact

Legally, election mail cannot be forwarded. If a voter will be temporarily away during an election and would like to receive their ballot at a different address,

they may fill out a Seasonal Address Request and send it to the Plumas County Elections office.

Myth

Filing a Temporarily Away forwarding address with the Post Office will make sure my ballot arrives to my out of town destination.

Fact

Voters who are registered and active in California may participate or not participate in as many elections as they choose. If you choose to not vote in the Primary Election, you may still vote in the General Election. 

Myth

Choosing not to vote in the Primary Election Disqualifies voters from participating in the General Election.
