Division Functions

Duties and responsibilities of the County Clerk - Recorder Department's Recorder Division include:

  • Issuing marriage licenses and performing short ceremonies
  • Maintaining registries for process servers and legal document assistants
  • Processing Fictitious Business Name statements filings as well as environmental documents including notices of determination, environmental impact reports, etc.
  • Processing notary public filings
  • Recording all land title documents, liens, mining claims, and veteran's discharges
  • Registering vital statistics including births, deaths, and marriages
  • Providing certified copies of vital statistics and documents

Marriage Licenses and Ceremonies

Call for an Appointment First.
Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

License Application Form (PDF) 

  • You must obtain a Marriage License prior to any ceremony. 
  • Both applicants must be present and at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid identification must be presented to verify age and identity.  
  • If either applicant has been previously married, they will need the date the marriage ended.  If you were divorced within the last 12 months, you must present official court documentation showing you are able to enter into another marriage and what date that marriage ended.
  • You will need to know your parent's full names and the birth name of your mother and where they were born.
  • If you currently live in California and are getting married in Plumas County, you DO NOT need a specific Plumas County License. You can obtain a license in the California County where you live and use that license in Plumas County or any county in California.
  • There is no longer any blood tests required, and there is no waiting period, the license may be used upon issuance and must be used within 90 days after issue. 

Complete the Application Form and bring it into our office AFTER CALLING TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.  PLEASE CALL 530-283-6128 TO  RESERVE A TIME FOR YOUR LICENSE ISSUANCEYou must have a current Photo ID, and be at least 18, and if any previous marriage ended in the past year further documentation will be needed.
