Inspection Request

BUILDING INSPECTIONS AND INSPECTION REQUESTS

Building inspection ensures that buildings are compliant with current code in order to maintain a safe community standard. This is accomplished with professional plan checking, building inspection, and investigation of substandard structures.

Note:  Inspections and approval by a County Building Inspector are required for all work being done with a permit.

REQUEST AN INSPECTION
Building Inspections can be requested by calling the Inspection Request Phone Line (24/7) at:
(530) 283-6001

To schedule an inspection you must have the following information:

  1. The permit number
  2. The type of inspection
  3. The property address where the work will occur
  4. The date of requested inspection
  5. The name and phone number of the person who will be attending the inspection(For example: the contractor or designated representative who is familiar with the project should be present)

Inspection requests must be received by no later than 3 PM of the working day before the requested inspections. Inspection requests left on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) will be scheduled for the following Tuesday. Inspection requests left on a County holiday will be scheduled the second day after the County holiday.

Areas such as Bucks Lake and LaPorte may not be accessible for inspections in winter months and the need for inspections should be completed before the Plumas County Public Works Department closes the road to those areas.

Important Note:  Building Inspectors schedule their inspection routes based on the inspections that have been requested for a given day. If you do not request all the inspections you need, you may have to reschedule for another day as the inspector may not have time in their schedule to add additional inspections.

Due to any potential emergency, the Inspection Schedule Calendar is not finalized until 8:30 a.m. on the day of the inspection. This is an estimated time only. Please allow one hour before and after estimated inspection time.  Road delays, vehicle maintenance problems, and other unanticipated issues can delay or accelerate the inspector's arrival.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL INSPECTIONS

  • Work must match what is shown on the approved plans.
  • If the actual conditions of the job are different than what is shown on the approved plans OR you are unable to follow the work on the approved plans, you will need to notify your design professional and have them revise the plans and submit them to the County for approval BEFORE calling for an inspection
  • Please do not cover ANY work until it has been approved by a County Building Inspector
  • Make sure the work is COMPLETED and READY for inspection before requesting an inspection. Not being ready for an inspection can result in reinspection fees and project delays.
  • Make sure you are scheduling your inspections on the correct permit.
  • To close out a permit and avoid costly delays and administrative fees you must request final inspections for all related records.
  • Ladders shall be onsite and secure per OSHA regulations for the building inspector.
