SIDS Program is a part of the MCAH Program. The SIDS Program focuses on providing education about SIDS, grief counseling, and what can be done to reduce the risk of SIDS, like placing babies on their backs to sleep. Coroners are required by law to report the information pertaining to a SIDS death within 24 hours after the gross autopsy. The coroner should report the death to the health department of residence. Public health nurses are required to submit the Public Health Services Report Form within 30 days of the date of the presumed SIDS death to the California SIDS Program.
