PCPHA’s Emergency Preparedness Office has taken an active role in our communities by developing, coordinating, and facilitating full scale exercises. Exercises are a vital component in preparing for various emergency and disasters, by testing the capability of responding to various natural and man-made disasters. Exercises assisting identifying strengths and area for improvement regarding emergency response. The EPO has taken a lead role in developing Active Shooter Full Scale Exercises in local high schools. In 2019, Active Shooter Full Scale Exercise was held at Portola Jr/Sr High School and in 2023 the exercise was held at Quincy Jr/Sr High School. These exercises were designed to assist first responders and school staff to respond to unusual events that may challenge our facilities, personnel, and impact our communities. The purpose of the full-scale exercise was to test our local law enforcement, emergency medical services, hospitals, and school staff, as well as other community partners who would respond to an incident involving an active shooter in our community.
