[ARCHIVED] Fish & Game Commission voted to begin the process that could declare the Gray Wolf as Endangered

Fish and Game Commission – Petition to list the grey wolf as an endangered species

· The commission voted unanimously (3-0) on 10-03-2012 to accept the petition: the motion was as follows:

o “…commission hereby finds that the petition to list the grey wolf as an endangered species may be warranted and therefore designates the grey wolf as a candidate for endangered species status, with a recommendation to DFG to commence review to see if the species should or should not be listed as an endangered species.” DFG will have one year to conduct research and prepare a recommendation and report back to the commission.

· In case anyone wants to see/listen to the meeting from yesterday (6 hr:08min:32 sec) Here’s the link: http://www.cal-span.org/cgi-bin/media.pl?folder=CFG

· There was numerous speakers (about 35) on this issue – including Modoc CAC Joe Moreo

· The commission had 7,000 letters supporting the listing and 33 in opposition

Many of the opposition letters were from County Agric. Comm. including one from Plumas/Sierra. The statewide Association of Ag. Comm. (CACASA) has requested to be part of the process in order to ensure our viewpoint of supporting/representing agriculture is considered. This next year will be crucial, I encourage everyone who is interested in this issue to make your viewpoint known to those who will be making the decisions.
I will continue to follow this issue and to send out information as appropriate.
