Our Catalog

Check out our online catalog to find our physical collection of books, audiobooks, DVDs, and more. A library card is needed to check out our material.

We also have a selection of read and return items (including books, audiobooks, and movies) that do not require a library card at each branch, and our Friends of the Library help maintain an ongoing book sale at each location.

Need help using the catalog? Check out our step-by-step written guides on how to log into your account; how to look up an item on the catalog; how to put an item on hold; and how to check your history of checkouts. We also have a video guide showing you how to log on, look up items in the catalog, put an item on hold, and check your history of checkouts

The "New" Shelf - While you may not be able to browse the New Shelf in person, if you would like to see the latest additions to the library you can click on this link here (or specifically you can look at adult-only content, YA-only content, and Juvenile-only content) and put a hold on items you want.  It includes all materials with copyright dates 2021-2023 with the newest items that have been added to the collection at the top. (Donated items added to the collection with older copyright dates will not show up in this search.) We also have a link that just shows you recent DVDs added to the collection and recent Audiobooks added to the collection, with no copyright date restrictions.

If you need help, please contact your local branch and we will be happy to walk you through searching our catalog or putting items on hold.

CA Collection - We have several rare books on history, geography, and other facets of California and the Sierra Nevada region in our catalog. Some of these books are also available as adult nonfiction, in which case you may check them out from the Library as you would any other book. Otherwise, to view one of these items, you will need to visit the Quincy Branch or contact the staff at another Branch to put these items on hold. Please note these items may not leave the Library walls and can only be viewed at a Plumas County Branch.

Overdrive/Libby

Download e-books and e-audiobooks onto your laptop or portable device. You can also access our e-magazine collection - formerly known as RBDigital/Zinio - through this site.  (Libby is the app/site used to access Overdrive, which hosts our collection.)

Please click here for a step-by-step guide on how to use Libby, which is the app to access Overdrive.

No app? You can also use Libby right in your web browser, no app downloads are needed: just click here and follow the prompts.

*Please note that some Plumas and Sierra County zip codes may not automatically find "Plumas Library" when you search for the Library system during set-up. Please type "Plumas" instead, and then click on the matching Library called "NorthNet Library System - Plumas County Library."*

Ever wonder why you moved down on the holds list and your wait time just got longer? Our Overdrive collection comes from two sources: the first source consists of items bought by the consortium that are shared equally with every library system. The second source consists of items bought by a specific library system and then shared. When a library system buys items, its patrons get automatic priority on the holds list. Unfortunately, this will bump you further down the list. But this also works in reverse—items bought by our library system mean you as Plumas and Sierra County patrons get priority for those items. We apologize for the inconvenience and long wait times this may cause, but it gives us access to a lot more items we wouldn’t otherwise be able to offer.

Reciprocal Lending Agreement (Sept 28, 2022): Plumas County Library is part of the NorthNet Library System (NLS). While the Library buys items individually, most of the Libby collection is a shared collection with other California libraries that are part of NLS.  We now have an agreement between NLS and the other library systems MARINet and Peninsula Library System (PLS) to expand our collection under the Reciprocal Lending Agreement. Each system has thousands of unique titles the other systems don’t have.  Using your Plumas/Sierra County Library Card, you now have access to most of these additional items. However, for MARINet and PLS items, you will only be able to access them when they are currently available for checkout. Please click here for a step-by-step guide on how to add extra library systems to your Libby account, or use the Guide to Using Libby.

(Note about the Desktop Issue - In the app, MARINet and PLS items are only visible when you can immediately check them out. When the item is not available, it should not be visible. However, there is a small issue with the desktop version of Libby we are working to fix. All items, whether available or not, are visible. You are still not able to open or put these items on hold though. Instead, after entering your information, an error message will pop up saying “Only X Library cardholders can place a hold on this title.”) We are hoping to get this fixed soon. (Last updated: 9/28/22)

The OverDrive app will stop working by the end of April 2023 and you will be required to switch to the Libby app at that time.

zip book logoZip Book Request & Rules Form (PDF)

Can't find a book (print or audio) in our catalog? If your library account is in good standing, fill out the request form for the item you wish to see and bring it to one of our branches. The item will be shipped directly to you, and then you can return it to the branch you ordered it from after you've finished reading it so we can add it to our catalog for other patrons to borrow.

Please read the rules for the program before ordering your Zip Book. Items that can't be ordered through the program can be requested using the yellow request slips available at the front desk, though no request is guaranteed.

If you want to request your item through email, you can use this form instead and email it to the bring you to plan to return the item to. (You must use the form titled "Email Form Only" at the top. See the Branch tab for the correct email to send the request to.) There can be up to a week delay when ordering through email instead of in person. If your information below does not match your library card record, we will need to call you to confirm you ordered this, and this may extend the ordering delay. All other Zip Book rules apply.

State Park Passes

California State Parks and the California State Library are excited to announce an additional opportunity to advance safe and equitable outdoor access to all Californians. You will now be able to check out a CA State Library Parks Pass at your local Library Branch! The new pass will allow free vehicle day-use entry at more than 200 participating state park units.

Library cardholders will be able to check out the pass for two weeks, then return the pass to the library for others to use. The pass is valid for entry of one passenger vehicle with a capacity of nine people or less or one highway-licensed motorcycle at participating state park units. The pass is not renewable, but passes can be put on hold and there are no fines associated with the pass. Click here to see if the pass is available or to put it on hold.

You may also be interested in two other CA State Library programs - the California State Park Adventure Pass program provides free day-use passes for fourth graders and their families, and the Golden Bear Pass Program lets families who receive CalWORKs get a free annual, vehicle day-use pass valid at 200+ state parks.

Check out the PORTS Home Learning Programs from home too! These are free, live public broadcasts that empower students, teachers, and families to explore California State Parks from wherever they are.
